Making Your Own Murphy Bed

Lots of people need extra bedding but also having less space for realizing their desire. The Murphy bed can be the answer for those who desire extra bedding but have limited space. Here below are the steps of how to make a Murphy bed.

1. First you must select the bed materials that’s gonna be used in your project.

2. Then, you will need to get yourself two bookshelves which are produced in similar height. They will be used on each side of the Murphy bed later.

3. Next, the place where the bookshelves will be mounted must be well-measured using a pencil. Make sure that you use reciprocating-saw in cutting out the baseboards in the area so that the shelves will be flushing alongside with the wall.

4. The next step is you must check and find the studs behind the wall since this is used as the place where the bookshelves will go. Then, the bookshelves must be mounted securely to the studs of the wall using screws.

5. Next, the bed box’s measurement must be determined. Then, the wood glue must be applied and then the boards also must be nailed together. Then you will need to get the pre-drill holes made where the corners will be met. Use wood screws for the stability.

6. Then the attachment board that is used to place the bed into the wall must be made using a piece of 2 by 8. We call this a ledger board.

7. The MDF must be cut into particular size which is appropriate for the frame of the bed.

8. Next, the frame must be turned over and then a two inch brackets must be added in order to affix the side rails and the MDF.

9. Next, you can use the six inch hinges to place the ledger board into the frame of the bed.

10. Then next, the blocks must be used in order to make the bed frame stand at the high which is appropriate.

11. After that, the three inch lag bolts must be used in affixing the ledger-board to the wall.

12. Next, the casters must be attached to the bed’s bottom and then build a frame using MDF to get them hidden.

13. Then, the finishing details can now be added using the trim molding and then get the bookshelves & Murphy bed box painted. Get any ideas on how to make your own Murphy bed?
